Shortly before 6:30 am on the 7th of May 2024 the Timmins Police responded to a report of a weapons incident on Sixth Avenue. A wide area around the scene has been contained by uniform patrol officers and the Timmins Police Emergency Response Team has been deployed. The OPP K-9 unit has also been deployed to assist.
One male victim has been taken to the hospital with a gunshot wound. His current status is not known at this time.
Shortly after the weapons incident, police also received a call of a motor vehicle collision in the area of Maple North and Seventh Avenue. It is believed that these two incidents are related and that area is also being contained by police.
The Timmins Police Criminal Investigations Division and Forensic Identification Unit has taken carriage of the investigation.
The area around Sixth Avenue will be under police control for an undetermined amount of time while the investigation continues. The Timmins Police requests that persons avoid this area and take and alternate route. Due to the proximity of the incident, schools in the area have been temporarily shut down as a precautionary measure.
