(TIMMINS) – Due to the risk of flooding, the Kashechewan First Nation has begun the proactive evacuation of its residents. The community of Timmins has been selected as one of several host sites to support this important effort.
Approximately 250 evacuees are expected to arrive in Timmins and will be accommodated in the areas of Riverside Drive near School Road and Brunette Road near Algonquin Boulevard.
This evacuation initiative is being coordinated by Missanabie Cree ISN Maskwa Inc, a specialized First Nation led emergency response organization and supported by Creemergency. These organizations will oversee the logistics and care of the evacuees throughout their stay.
The Timmins Police Service encourage members of the public to be considerate, kind, and welcoming during this time. Residents and motorists are reminded to be mindful of the increased foot traffic and activity in the area. We thank the community in advance for their understanding and compassion as we assist those in need.
