
(TIMMINS) –On Tuesday, July 8th, 2025, at approximately 6:07 a.m., the Timmins Police Service responded to multiple reports of an erratic driver traveling along Highway 101, past the McIntyre Community Centre and continuing through South Porcupine.
The vehicle in question ultimately collided with a lamp post and also struck a pedestrian. The pedestrian sustained injuries as a result of the collision and was transported to hospital. The victim sustained serious injuries and considered non-life-threatening.
The driver was found to be impaired and was taken into custody at the scene. Charges are pending, they have not yet been sworn to before the courts. As such, the identity of the accused and specific charges cannot be released at this time.
“This situation could have had tragic consequences,” said Acting Sergeant Trevor Southcott, Traffic Section, with the Timmins Police Service. “Driving while impaired puts every road user in danger and continues to be a serious public safety concern.”
The Timmins Police Service remains committed to addressing impaired driving in our community. From January 2025 to today’s date, a total of 25 drivers have been charged with impaired operation-related offences:
- 19 impaired by alcohol
- 6 impaired by drugs

Police are urging the public to plan ahead and make responsible choices. Options such as taxis, designated drivers, public transportation, and rideshare services are available and can prevent tragic outcomes.

The Timmins Police Service is committed to road safety and will continue to investigate and charge individuals who choose to operate a motor vehicle while impaired.
