
(TIMMINS) The Timmins Police Service has laid multiple charges following an incident that occurred on April 16, 2026, involving an impaired driver and the seizure of a significant quantity of suspected controlled substances.
On April 16, 2026, at approximately 2:45 p.m., a member of the Timmins Police Service Traffic Division observed an individual operating a motorcycle in the area of 741 Algonquin Boulevard East. The individual was known to police as being prohibited from operating any motor vehicle.
During an interaction, the officer observed multiple signs of impairment and the indicators were consistent with drug impairment, as there was no evidence of alcohol consumption.
At approximately 3:00 p.m., the individual was arrested for operation while impaired.
A Drug Recognition Evaluation (DRE) demand was issued, which the accused complied with. During a search incident to arrest, officers located a large quantity of Canadian currency in his possession. A further search of a backpack in his possession resulted in the seizure of a substantial quantity of suspected drugs, including fentanyl, crack cocaine, and crystal methamphetamine.
The accused was additionally charged with possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking. Custody was then transferred to a certified Drug Recognition Expert for further evaluation. The evaluating officer formed the opinion that the accused’s ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by drugs.
The seized substances were weighed and are as follows:
- Suspected green fentanyl: 220.9 grams
- Suspected brown fentanyl: 31.1 grams
- Suspected crack cocaine: 7.2 grams
- Suspected crystal methamphetamine: 19 grams
The estimated street value of the seized drugs amount to approximately $53,020. Police also seized a quantity of Canadian currency believed to be proceeds of crime that amounted to $2,990.
Accused and Charges
Scott SANTERRE, 39, of Timmins has been charged with:
- Operation while Impaired – Drugs
- Operation while Impaired – Blood Drug Concentration
- 3 counts of Possession of Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking
- Possession of Proceeds of Crime
The accused was held for a bail hearing, which took place on April 17, 2026 and has been remanded into custody.
