
The Timmins Police Service is investigating a homicide following a report of shots fired in the area of Balsam Street North.
On July 31, 2026, shortly after midnight, officers responded to reports of gunfire in the area. Upon arrival, officers located an adult male suffering from significant injuries. Officers immediately secured the scene, seized one firearm, and began providing emergency first aid until Emergency Medical Services arrived. The male was transported to hospital in vital signs absent (VSA) condition and was later pronounced deceased.
The Timmins Police Service Criminal Investigations Division has assumed carriage of the investigation. Preliminary information indicates the victim and the suspect were known to one another and that this was a targeted incident.
As part of the investigation, members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Canine Unit, Emergency Response Team (ERT), and Tactics and Rescue Unit (TRU) assisted Timmins Police officers in clearing a residence in the Cedar Street North area in an effort to locate the suspect. Despite extensive efforts, the suspect has not yet been located.
The investigation remains active and ongoing. Additional information will be released as it becomes available and when it is appropriate to do so without compromising the investigation.
