(TIMMINS) The Timmins Police Service is reminding the community of the critical importance of sober driving after three drivers were arrested for impaired operation over the St. Patrick’s Day weekend.
Two drivers were taken into custody on Friday night, during a RIDE program, with a third driver arrested on Sunday evening during a patrol. In each case, the individuals were found to have blood alcohol concentrations exceeding 80mg per 100mL of blood. These arrests underscore the continued risk posed by impaired driving and the need for all motorists to make responsible choices.
All three drivers have been charged with:
- Operation While Impaired – Alcohol
- Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 plus)
“Impaired driving is entirely preventable, and yet we continue to see individuals making reckless decisions that put themselves and others at risk,” said Constable Watson, Traffic Unit. “Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs endangers not only the driver but also passengers, other motorists, and pedestrians. We urge everyone to make responsible transportation plans before consuming alcohol.”
The Timmins Police Service strongly encourages residents to take advantage of safe alternatives to impaired driving, including:
- Arranging for a designated driver
- Calling a taxi or using a rideshare service
- Staying overnight if at a friend’s or family member’s home
The Timmins Police Service remains committed to enforcing impaired driving laws and ensuring the safety of all road users. If you suspect someone is driving under the influence, please call 9-1-1 immediately.
Let’s all do our part to keep our roads safe. Don’t drink and drive.
