(TIMMINS) Members of the Timmins Snowmobile Club (TSC) Trail Patrol along with the Timmins Police Service have begun patrols of the local Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Club (OFSC) snowmobile trails. Together, both organizations are working hand in hand to promote safe snowmobiling, educate riders, and enforce the Motorized Snow Vehicles Act.
During compliance checks conducted the evening of February 4, 2026, approximately 65 snowmobiles were checked, resulting in three Provincial Offence Notices (PONs) being issued. Ten riders were found without valid OFSC trail permits during the compliance checks and were dealt with accordingly.
Riders are reminded to have all required documentation before heading out on the trails. This includes the vehicle’s registration, valid proof of insurance, a valid driver’s license or valid snowmobile operator’s license, along with an OFSC trail permit affixed properly to the snowmobile.
Before you ride, please remember a few important tips:
- Check the OFSC Interactive Trail Guide (ITG) to ensure the trail system is open for riding, either available (green) or limited (yellow).
- Be aware of local bylaws and regulations. (https://www.timmins.ca/our_services/recreation_services/snowmobiling)
- Follow the posted speed limits of 50 km/h on trails or 20 km/h on city streets where permitted.
- Never operate a snowmobile under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
- Use caution at ice crossings and check conditions before use.
- Keep right on the trails.
We would like to thank all riders who are committed to safe snowmobiling. To ensure trail safety and compliance with the rules, joint patrols will continue for the duration of the season. The Timmins Police Service can be contacted at (705) 264-1201 to report any concerns or unsafe acts. For trail emergencies, call 9-1-1.
Please ride safe, ride sober, and enjoy our local trails.
