(TIMMINS) – The Timmins Police Service arrested two impaired drivers on Friday, March 21, 2025. The first arrest resulted from a concerned citizen calling in a report of a possible impaired driver. Officers from the Traffic Section located the vehicle and arrested the driver for Operation While Impaired by Drugs. Further investigation revealed that the driver had an outstanding warrant for his arrest and was currently under three separate driving suspensions.
The second impaired driving arrest occurred later that night during a RIDE program conducted by Timmins Police. Officers identified and arrested a driver for Operation While Impaired by Drugs.
“These arrests demonstrate that despite ongoing education and enforcement efforts, individuals are still choosing to drive while impaired by drugs,” said Constable Watson of the Timmins Police Service Traffic Unit. “It’s important to remember that impairment isn’t just caused by alcohol. Drug-impaired driving is just as dangerous, and we have trained Drug Recognition Experts within our platoons and Traffic Section who are actively identifying and arresting drug-impaired drivers.”
The Timmins Police Service reminds the public that impairment by drugs is just as illegal and dangerous as impairment by alcohol. Officers continue to use specialized training and roadside screening methods to detect and remove impaired drivers from our roads. The public is encouraged to report suspected impaired drivers by calling police immediately.
