The Timmins Police Service is seeking the public’s assistance in identifying an unknown individual believed to be responsible for damaging a hydro line beneath the Riverside Bridge near the Mattagami boat launch.
Police are investigating an incident believed to have occurred at approximately 1:00 a.m. on August 18, 2026, involving a 4000-amp hydro line that provides electrical service to the City’s west end. The line had been cut using tools.
Investigators located evidence at the scene, including tree branches, a hat, and tools, all displaying signs of burning and charring. A bag containing additional personal articles was also recovered from the water beneath the bridge.
Due to the significant danger posed by high-voltage infrastructure, the Ontario Provincial Police Marine Unit assisted by conducting a search of the surrounding waterways.
The investigation remains ongoing, and police are asking anyone who may have witnessed suspicious activity in the area, or who may have information regarding the identity of the individual involved, to contact the Timmins Police Service at 705-264-1201. Information can also be provided anonymously through Crime Stoppers.
Police remind the public that tampering with critical infrastructure is extremely dangerous and can place both individuals and the community at serious risk.
