The Timmins Police Service is proud to announce the launch of this year’s Festive RIDE (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) campaign, aimed at keeping our community safe during the holiday season.
From now through New Year’s Day, Timmins Police officers will be conducting roadside spot checks across the city to identify and deter impaired driving. This initiative is part of a province-wide effort to address the risks associated with driving under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or both.
“Our goal is simple: to ensure everyone gets home safely to their families this holiday season,” said Chief Syd Lecky. “We want to remind everyone that impaired driving is entirely preventable. Plan ahead, and make safe choices.”
- Impaired driving continues to be one of the leading causes of collisions, injuries, and fatalities on Canadian roads.
- Drivers impaired by alcohol, cannabis, or other drugs will face severe legal consequences, including fines, license suspensions, and criminal charges.
- Public safety is a shared responsibility. Timmins Police encourages residents to report suspected impaired drivers by calling 9-1-1.
Plan Ahead, Timmins!
To avoid impaired driving, the Timmins Police Service recommends the following:
- Arrange for a designated driver.
- Call a taxi, rideshare, or use public transit.
- Stay overnight if no safe options are available.
The Festive RIDE program not only aims to enforce laws but also to educate drivers about the risks of impaired driving and encourage everyone to make responsible decisions.
The Timmins Police Service thanks the community for their ongoing support and reminds drivers that safety starts with you.
