
The Timmins Police Service is currently investigating two fires that occurred this week on Third Avenue that resulted in significant damage to two local businesses. At approximately 300AM on September 12 2025, the Timmins Fire Department responded to a report of a structure fire on Third Avenue near Balsam Street South. The fire was deemed suspicious, and the investigation was turned over to the Timmins Police Service.
At approximately midnight on September 13 2025, an officer patrolling the downtown observed smoke and located an active fire on Third Avenue near Cedar Street South. Timmins Fire Department attended the scene and extinguished the fire. This fire was deemed suspicious, and the investigation was turned over to the Timmins Police Service.
At this time, investigators are working to determine the identity of the person or persons responsible. Police requesting the public’s assistance. Investigators are asking residents and businesses to review any surveillance footage or dashcam footage they may have from the following locations and times: Third Avenue and Algonquin Boulevard East from Pine Street South to Mountjoy Street South as well as footage from laneways for:
September 12 between 230AM and 300AM, and
September 13 between 1130PM and 1200AM
