The Timmins Police Service conducted a RIDE (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) program during the evening hours of Saturday, May 16, 2026, as part of ongoing efforts to promote road safety and deter impaired driving within the community. The enforcement initiative also coincided with Canada Road Safety Week, a national campaign focused on increasing awareness and compliance with safe driving measures.
During the initiative, officers checked approximately 150 vehicles.
As a result of the enforcement initiative:
- One individual was charged with Unsafe Vehicle, Driving While Under Suspension, and Use Plate Not Authorized. The vehicle plates were seized and the vehicle was towed from the scene.
- One driver was arrested and charged with Impaired Operation by Drugs. The driver’s vehicle was impounded for seven days and the driver was issued a 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (ADLS).
- Approximately 60 Approved Screening Device (ASD) demands were administered to drivers throughout the checkpoint operation.
- Two drivers were issued seven-day driver’s licence suspensions after registering a blood alcohol concentration exceeding 50 mg of alcohol per 100 mL of blood.
- One driver was charged with Failing to Comply with a Provincial Offences Act probation order after having a blood alcohol concentration above 0 mg/100 mL of blood.
Canada Road Safety Week is an enforcement-driven initiative led by the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police (CACP) that aims to increase public compliance with safe driving measures in order to save lives and reduce injuries on Canadian roads. The campaign focuses on impaired driving, distracted driving, aggressive driving, fatigue-impaired driving, and seatbelt compliance.
The Timmins Police Service reminds motorists that impaired driving continues to pose a serious risk to public safety. Officers remain committed to proactive traffic enforcement initiatives aimed at keeping roadways safe for all users.
Drivers are encouraged to plan ahead, arrange for a sober ride, and never operate a vehicle while impaired by alcohol or drugs.
