On March 22, 2024, members of the Timmins Police Service responded to a call for service shortly after 9pm at a convenience store located in the north end of the city.
A lone female had entered the store and began gathering various items in the store in an attempt to leave without making any effort to pay for the items.
When confronted by the store clerk, the female brandished a weapon, assaulted the store clerk and left the scene.
The store clerk was able to dial 911 and requested police assistance. Members of the Timmins Police Service attended the convenience store and rendered assistance to the store clerk, who was subsequently taken to the Timmins and District Hospital where she was treated for her injuries.
The female suspect was identified as Christina Tapas (30) of Timmins and was located and arrested a short time after the incident. The weapon used in this incident was also located. Tapas was held in police custody pending her bail hearing.
Christina Tapas is charged with the following offences:
- Robbery with violence contrary to section 343(a) of the Criminal Code of Canada;
- Aggravated Assault contrary to section 268 of the Criminal Code of Canada;
- Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose contrary to section 88 of the Criminal Code of Canada;
- Carrying concealed weapon contrary to section 90 of the Criminal Code of Canada;
- Fail to Comply with Probation Order contrary to section 733.1(1) of the Criminal Code of Canada.
She remains in custody, after a bail hearing, with a future court date scheduled.
