The Timmins Police Service is providing an update regarding several recent shooting incidents in the community.
On July 31, 2026, police began a homicide investigation following an altercation that took place between two individuals. During that altercation, a victim was shot and killed. The victim was identified, and the investigation remains ongoing. No one has been arrested or charged in relation to this incident. Investigators are actively pursuing leads in an effort to locate and arrest the suspect involved.
On August 1, 2026, police responded to the scene of another shooting. This incident occurred within 24 hours of the first shooting. One person was shot and killed. Two people were arrested and charged with several offences, including First Degree Murder. The two people are currently in custody pending a bail hearing. In these circumstances, four other people had attended the home to commit a robbery in relation to the drug trade. One person died as a result of being shot, while another was seriously injured and remains in hospital. The two other people have been arrested and charged with criminal offences, including robbery and firearms offences. This was a serious and targeted conflict within the drug trade. The investigation remains ongoing as additional details are confirmed and evidence processing is completed; however, the general details of the incident have been uncovered by the investigative team.
Most recently, on August 16, 2026, there were two shootings that occurred at residences. No one was struck or injured in either incident. It is believed that the same suspect committed the shootings at both locations. The investigation remains ongoing.
“All of these incidents have a common element related to the drug trade, and the people who have been identified are known to police,” said Deputy Chief Darren Dinel. “These are not random acts of violence, but there are obvious concerns when these conflicts involve illegal firearms and the confrontations that follow. Our investigators continue to pursue those involved, and we are taking additional steps to address these concerns and enhance public safety in our community.”
The Timmins Police Service is continuing to pursue those involved, as well as implementing additional enforcement initiatives in the community. This includes increased policing during busy times of day, additional compliance checks, and the deployment of other resources as necessary.
The investigations into these incidents remain active. Anyone with information that may assist investigators is encouraged to contact the Timmins Police Service.
